How To Read Vibration Specifications

Tech Support sometimes receives questions in an effort to clarify exactly what the short hand notes shown in the technical data pages of our catalog mean, like this one concerning vibration resistance.

Sprecher & Schuh Series CA7 vibration specifications as extracted from e-catalog

Vibration Resistance

IEC 60068-2-6 : Static > 2g, in normal position no malfunction <5g

Testing Specifications

The contactor was mounted to the shaker table such that the vibration was in the axis of contact travel (typically called the Front-Back axis, or also X - axis in case of CA7 contactors).

First, Testing was done with the coil of the contactor not energized as this is when the contact carrier is most susceptible to the influence of vibration (Static). Second, Testing was done with the coil of the contactor energized (Normal position)

Static > 2 g means no change in state of the contacts (no function failure allowed) at an acceleration of 2 g or less with coil not energized.

Normal position means no change in state of the contacts (no function failure allowed)

No malfunction < 5 g means at an acceleration of 5 g or less with coil energized.

This Testing Data means CA7 Contactors can be used on compressors and other equipment with vibration issues. The contactor will function normally when subjected to the vibration criteria shown in the vibration resistance specifications.
