CDP2 Modifications pertaining to A2L refrigerants

Modifications to the design of our contactors, covers, auxiliary switches, and mechanical interlocks have been made to support compliance with UL standard 60335-2-40 pertaining to A2L refrigerants.

Key Changes

The allowable opening of contactors had to be made smaller to comply with the UL standard. 

1.    Contactor/Aux/Mechanical Interlock Adjustments: The 3 & 4 pole contactors were modified to reduce opening sizes, the interface to the Aux and Mechanical Interlock was changed.  

Combinations that are compatible

• Only A2L compliant aux’s and A2L compliant mechanical interlocks can be assembled to A2L compliant contactors.
• A2L compliant assemblies (contactor, aux's, covers) must use all A2L components

combinations that are not compatible

• A2L compliant aux’s and A2L compliant mechanical interlocks can no longer be assembled to Non-A2L contactors. 
• Non-A2L aux’s and Non-A2L compliant mechanical interlocks can no longer be assembled to A2L compliant contactors.

2.    Cover Adjustments: The covers were modified to meet the UL requirements. 
 combinations that are compatible

• All covers (A2L and non-A2L) can be assembled to all contactors
• 40A 1,2 pole contactors come with factory installed covers, covers were modified for A2L compliance
• A2L compliant assemblies (contactor plus covers) must use all A2L covers 

Combinations that are not compatible

• None

Note: The old CDP2-BE-1SPDT ser A, CDP2-BE-11 ser A and CDP2-MK1 ser A accessories (these are thenon-A2L versions) can only be used on the old series (non-A2L) CDP2 contactors  

The new A2L compliant series B versions of the CDP2-BE-1SPDT, CDP2-BE-11 and CDP2-MK1 accessories are Not backwards compatible with the old series non-A2L contactors in the attached spreadsheet.

If you have and old series CDP2 (non-A2L) contactor that requires an obsolete (non-A2L) CDP2-BE-1SPDT, CDP2-BE-11 or CDP2-MK1 series A accessory, you can contact Industrial Controls Tech Support as shown below.  They have a limited amount of these three accessories that can be sent out as needed. Once this supply runs out, the only option will be to get the new A2L versions of both the contactor and accessory.
